Before you book.
What is EDT?
Essential Driver Training. It's the 12-lesson course first-time learner permit holders in Ireland must complete with an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) before the driving test. Each lesson is signed off in your EDT logbook.
What should I bring to each lesson?
Your learner permit, every time, plus your EDT logbook. Bring glasses or contact lenses if you need them to drive, and wear comfortable shoes.
Do I need a learner permit before my first lesson?
Yes. You need a valid Irish learner permit to drive on the road with an instructor. If you don't have one yet, get it first and then book.
How many lessons do I have to take?
First-time learner permit holders must complete 12 one-hour Essential Driver Training lessons with an approved instructor. Plenty of people need more than that, and your instructor will tell you honestly where you stand.

Can I learn in an automatic?
Yes. Uncle Laddie teaches in an automatic car. You can also learn in your own car, manual or automatic.
Where do lessons start and finish? Do you teach outside Athlone?
We pick you up from home, work or school. We are based in Athlone and also teach learners outside the Athlone area, so just tell us where you are when you book, or call or WhatsApp to arrange it.
What if I fail my test?
It happens, and it is fixable. We go through what the tester marked, work on those faults, and run a mock test before you rebook.
